Experience the SolarScale curling mechanism in action
Each SolarScale panel contains 24 individual scales mounted on a flexible substrate. When onboard weather sensors detect wind speeds exceeding 60 km/h or hail conditions, the scales simultaneously curl inward using shape-memory alloy actuators. This creates an armored shell that protects the photovoltaic surface from impact damage. When conditions clear, scales uncurl within 30 seconds to resume energy generation.
