How Bioluminescence Works

Bioluminescent plankton (like dinoflagellates) emit light when disturbed by water movement. Stronger currents = more turbulence = brighter displays. The optimal depth is typically 10-20m where nutrient-rich waters meet the right temperature conditions. Our algorithms combine current speed, depth, tidal patterns, and historical bloom data to predict the most spectacular shows.
