Surface Discovery
This gazebo was built in 1952 by local craftsman James Chen. It has survived three major floods and remains a gathering spot for families, musicians, and dreamers.

Community Threads
Every Sunday for 40 years, Margaret "Bird Lady" Thompson fed pigeons here. In 1987, she secretly sheltered an orphaned bear cub in this gazebo for three nights before wildlife services arrived. The cub, later named "Lucky," was released into the Cascade Mountains.

Hidden Echoes
At midnight on New Year's Eve 1999, a time capsule was buried beneath the center floorboard. Inside: a handwritten letter from a 12-year-old girl predicting she'd become the first female mayor of Portland (she did), a vintage Game Boy with Tetris still paused on level 18, and a jar of river water from the day the pollution cleared.
